How to Fix a Slow Computer (Windows 10/11)

Symptoms:

  • Programs take too long to open.
  • Computer freezes or lags frequently.
  • High CPU or RAM usage.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Restart the computer – Many issues are resolved with a simple restart.
  2. Check for high resource usage:
    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
    • Click Processes and sort by CPU or Memory.
    • End unnecessary tasks.
  3. Disable startup programs:
    • Open Task Manager > Startup tab.
    • Disable non-essential programs.
  4. Run Windows Updates:
    • Go to Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
  5. Free up disk space:
    • Open Storage Settings and delete temporary files.
  6. Run a virus scan:
    • Open Windows Security > Virus & Threat Protection > Quick Scan.
